Optimum Healthcare IT hosts free SPOTme Skin Cancer Screening on March 23

Organized by the Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation

Optimum Healthcare IT, a Best in KLAS healthcare IT consulting services company will be hosting a free skin cancer screening on March 23, 2018. Conducted by Dr. Stephanie Carstens of the University of Florida Health Dermatology department from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM EST, the screenings will take place in a newly converted vintage school bus named the Shade Shuttle.

The screenings will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis and are organized by the Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation (PDMMF). Founded in 2015 by melanoma survivor Tracy Callahan, the Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation is a non-profit organization that funds research, raises awareness, and educates the community about melanoma.

Optimum Healthcare IT has been a financial supporter of this foundation and thanks in large part to their financial commitment; the organization now has a newly refurbished mobile screening and education bus and can offer free skin cancer screenings.

Unlike other cancers, a dermatologist can detect skin cancer during a visual exam of the skin. A skin cancer screening only takes a few minutes and can save lives. Currently, 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime with melanoma being the deadliest. In 2016, the Surgeon General declared skin cancer an epidemic in this country, yet it is highly preventable. Melanoma does not discriminate against race.
